Governor of the Central Bank of Syria and the Syrian delegation discuss with the President of the World Bank Group the latest developments in financing and projects in Syria

The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Mr. Safwat Raslan; the Syrian Minister of Finance, Mr. Yisr Barnieh; the International Cooperation Department; and the Syrian delegation participating in the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group discussed with the President of the World Bank Group, Mr. Ajay Banga, the latest developments in the financing provided to Syria, developments in the projects that the World Bank is working to implement, and ways to enhance cooperation to support economic recovery.

The meeting addressed the progress of work on the existing projects in Syria and the stages of their implementation, in addition to discussing the latest developments in the financing allocated to support a number of vital sectors, and the opportunities available to expand the scope of the projects in line with development needs and the priorities of the coming phase.

The meeting also addressed the World Bank Group's intention to move toward opening an office in Syria next January, in a manner that contributes to enhancing institutional communication and following up on the projects and programs that the World Bank is implementing in Syria
